Green teas are fast gaining recognition for their health-giving properties. They are said to help reduce the incidence of cancer, inhibit the increase of blood pressure & blood sugar, lower cholesterol and kill some bacteria. Green Tea contains a small amount of caffeine.
To brew, use only half a teaspoon per cup, infuse for one minute only and drink when slightly cooled. Do not make tea too strong as it will taste very bitter.
What is Sencha? Sencha literally means roasted tea. An old name referring to the main processing stage once used in the making of this most popular of all Japanese green tea. In the modern sencha-making process, the leaf is initially steam treated before further processing by hot-air drying, rolling and finally light roasting.
Steaming halts any fermentation (oxidization), the main difference between green and black tea production. Most Tea Total flavoured green teas have a sencha base.
Green tea is wonderfully economical with 100 grams making around 75 cups of tea. |
