Anna Salek, (the Tea Lady - pictured) founder of Tea Total Ltd, explains her love for the product by a flash of inspiration which prompted her first foray into selling tea. "I was working as a sports masseuse in Sydney some years ago, and read about a shop in Paddington that sold all these different blends." She tracked the place down and was amazed. "I didn't know there were so many. I told the owner he should be selling them at The Rocks market but he wasn't interested."

So Salek bought 12 of the most colourful teas straight off the shelf and booked a stall at The Rocks herself. It was, she remembers, a lot of hard work and a huge success - one that prompted her to come home to New Zealand and open the first Tea Total in Auckland in 1995.

Since then Tea Total has gone from strength to strength. The first shop was a small store in Mission Bay selling dry tea and light refreshments. This introduced Aucklanders to the concept of a tea shop but Anna soon realised she needed a bigger store that was also a cafe, to cater for both tea drinkers, coffee drinkers and the hungry.

Tea Total then moved to slightly larger premises in Mt Eden. This shop was successful and become well known throughout New Zealand. This prompted Anna to seek larger premises on Auckland's North Shore to create the signature store that now exists in Kitchener Road. Tea Total in Mt Eden no longer exists but part of the Tea Total range is still sold at the same location.

Today, Tea Total Ltd is run out of an ever expanding warehouse in Albany on Aucklands North Shore.  Selling tea to many cafe's, delicatessens & boutique hotels throughout NZ as well as suppling Tea Total cafe which sells and serves over 100 varieties of tea alongside coffee, excellent food and tea accessories
